Where do I put the sensor on my CPU?

Do not place the sensor between your CPU and the heat sink! If there is a gap on the side, you can put it there but the heat sink has to have direct contact to the CPU at all time.

A possibility is marked on the picture below but you can also measure the temperature of the air around. In that case adjust the set point, so the fan will turn on before the CPU gets too hot.
