Does the Taurus Super-S LCM and its drives go into standby with the Operating System?
The Taurus Super-S LCM itself does not have a "standby" function but in most cases, the drives will spin down when the system goes into sleep mode.
If the hard drives spin down depends on many different factors, including the Operating System, the interface, the hard drives, the RAID mode and the hardware. As an example, in our tests with two different sets of hard drives, the drives did spin down on the Mac for all interfaces and for all RAID modes but on the PC, when using USB, the drives kept spinning.
Now to the Taurus Super-S LCM itself. For the LCD back light we recommend to set it to 1min. That way, when it's idle for more than one minute, the light will turn off automatically. This is not related to the Operating System but a setting you can set via LCD display. For the fan, when it's set to Auto (default), it will reduce the fan speed to "low" but it will never turn off the fan. If your environment is cool enough and the temperature of the drives are not an issue, you can turn off the fan manually. If you do so, we recommend keeping an eye on the temperature for the first few days. If it gets too hot, it's better to set the fan speed back to "Auto".
