What does the error "System is running without home partition..." mean?

In order to make use of all the functions and features the MyCloud media server offers, it is necessary to store some of the user data and system files on the hard drive. To do so, the system requires one partition that is mounted as "home".

If the system is unable to find a partition that is mounted as "home", it will show the warning you have seen, starting with "System is running without home partition".
